It’s been said that over 2 million blog posts are published every day.

Well, I decided to find out myself rather than taking what everybody else says at face value. So, I plugged in in my browser and got this.

Content promotion

Incredible, isn’t it? A whopping 2.8 million posts published already.

Mind you, this figures were coming in real time, and as at the time I took this screenshot, it was 1:40pm GMT.

Though this figure may be inaccurate to a certain extent, what we know for sure is that the internet is getting noisier by the day. If you thought uploading contents on your website and slapping a bunch of keywords without any promotional efforts will attract huge traffic, think again.

Content marketing, at its core, constitutes of three pillars: Ideation, creation and promotion – take any out and every content marketing campaign will come crashing. The same amount of effort that goes into the creation of a piece of content, should also go into its promotion.

That being said, below are 20 content promotion strategies that chances are you have never tried before.

To make things easy for you, I have divided these promotional strategies into 4 categories:

  • Community outreach
  • Social
  • On page promotion
  • Paid promotion

Community Outreach

I started with community outreach because it is by far the simplest on our list. All you would be doing is copying and pasting, practically.

Medium, an online publishing platform, has been around for quite a while now, since 2012 to be precise. With over 650k users and a monthly visit of 60 million, the platform offers bloggers and marketers alike an opportunity to reach a great number of audience.

What I like about medium is its super simple interface. Additionally, it estimates the read time of a content as you can see below

content promotion

To promote with Medium, sign up using your twitter account. Next, click the “write a story” bottom at the upper section of the page, create your content and then hit the “share” button.

That’s all – no need waiting to have your content reviewed.

To drive traffic to your website, include a call to action at the button to the article with relevant links imbedded in it.

2. Ezine

Ezine, as you may know, is an electronic magazine that publishes, well, just about anything.

To get your feet wet, start off with their free membership plan, after which you could upgrade to premium membership.

Promoting your content via Ezine is pretty simple. All you need do is to craft the content you wish to promote, specify the relevant keywords, and then add some tags to make it easy for search engines to pick your content up.

Bizsugar is another free online platform that takes after Ezine, in that they both require users to upload their content and then wait for a review team to do the necessary.

Bizsugar is an ideal promotional channel if you write on any of the following niches:

  • Startup
  • Finance
  • Management
  • Technology
  • Marketing

To promote your content, all you need do is to register, click the “submit an article” button, include a link to your published article and then publish.

Until the review team approves of your work, you will have to wait 24 hours to submit another link. is somewhat similar to Quora, but unlike Quora which only allows members to ask questions, members on inbound can ask questions, find trending contents and articles, and most importantly share contents with the community.

Blog Engage is a lot broader than all platforms we have discussed so far. Everything from entertainment, health, education, arts, blogging etc., are discussed there.

Luckily, it costs $0 to open an account on blog engage.

6. followerwonk

Connecting with an influencer on social media can be a game changer when it comes to content promotion. Followerwonk, a tool by Moz, makes it easy to find authority figures on twitter.

To use, sign up with your twitter account. After that, click on the search bios button, slot in the keyword you are gunning for and then click “Do it”

content marketing

As a rule, twitter users with a large number of followers and little following are influential figures.

To lessen the chances of being turned down when reaching out to influencers, first start a conversation with the influencer you have zeroed in on.

7. Make mention of influencers in your tweets

One easy way of getting the attention of an influencer is by pegging their name (username) to a tweet. If your tweet matches their interest and they find your tweet insightful, there is every possibility that they will share the tweet with their followers.

8. LinkedIn Pulse

LinkedIn Pulse is a powerful, but yet overlooked platform for reaching a greater number of audience. It works best for long-form content and niche focused content.

9. Use hashtags for your tweets

Though somewhat old fashioned, these tactics still work. Using hashtags (sparingly) does two things for you:

  • Makes your tweet visible to searchers using the hashtagged keyword
  • Helps you keep track of discussion related to your tweet

10.Get active on social media forums

You would be leaving money on the table by turning blind eyes to forums. A good place to start would be LinkedIn Group. To find forums relevant to your niche on Google, use the following search query:

“niche” + “forum”

E.g.: “SEO” + “forum”

On Site Promotion

Who said you can’t conveniently promote a piece of content right from your own website? Let me show you how

11. Break your content up in series

Say you are a huge fan of Game of Thrones, a thriller seasonal movie – bet you can’t wait for the release of a new seasons. Content promotion differs very little. Create a hook, especially for your subscribers, by writing and publishing blog posts in series, and they will always come back asking for more.

12. Internal linking

Is any of your webpage outperforming the others, traffic wise? Great. Leverage this traffic by linking out to other pages within your website with low traffic.  You can either do this by adding a link right within the post or adding a “related post” category at the bottom of the page.

13. Make it easy for readers to share your content

If you have made it a duty to share super insightful contents with your readers, chances are they will eventually become your evangelist.

Make it easy for them to share your content by adding sharing button (preferably floating share button) to every page.

14. SEO

This is a no brainer. I took my time to spy on some authority sites, and to my surprise, search contributed to 60% of their traffic on the average. Even if you don’t know a thing about offsite SEO and link building, there are so many things you can do right now to boost traffic to your website.

  • Conducting an intense keyword research
  • Spying up on your competitors to find out the keywords they are ranking for
  • Strategically placing keywords at the right spot: title tags, H2 tags, body of content and images.

Paid Promotion

The fastest route to reach a wide audience is via paid promotion. Let’s explore some of the cost effective routes you can take

15. Reddit

If you want to go lean with paid promotion while still reaching a large audience, Reddit is the way to go. With the right set of keywords, reddit would fetch you 1300 visitors for every $1 spent. Start off by visiting the Reddit for business page

16. Outbrain

Outbrain is the way to go to get the biggest bang out of your buck. Contents are distributed on major publishing sites like fastcompany, and are placed right beneath of a related article. What I find sweet about outbrain is that gives marketers the chance to connect with already engaged audience.

17. Quuu promote

If social share constitutes your major yardstick for measuring the effectiveness of a content promotion strategy, quuu promote could be a good fit. With just $10, you can get as much as 300 shares on social media.

18. Stumble upon

Though expensive, stumble upon is an excellent platform to reach laser targeted audience.

Other content promotion strategies

19. Publishing contents in formats other than text

Not everybody has the stamina to read blocks upon blocks of texts. Some prefer to have it in pictures, others in slides and videos. Either way, it is imperative you serve these set of people content in the format they want it.

For slides, create and upload slides to

If it is a video, Vimeo and YouTube would be your best bet.

20. Commenting

One easy way of gaining the attention of influential bloggers is by commenting (useful and relevant comment) on their blogs. If you are lucky to have a click, go ahead and connect with them on social media.

Content promotion is as demanding as content ideation and creation. Put in the much needed effort and you will forever have a cause to smile all the time.
